Bishkek, April 27, 2021 . / Kabar / . On April 27-29, UN Women is holding in Bishkek the first regional exhibition "Women Entrepreneurship in Europe and Central Asia” with the participation of over 900 representatives from 12 countries, including 70 women from all regions of Kyrgyzstan.
The three-day exhibition is designed to support and empower women entrepreneurs during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The event covers 23 fields, including clothing, food, agricultural products, as well as retail and education.
The exhibition will feature six co-creation centers on topics ranging from branding and marketing to crowdfunding, e-commerce and investment. Entrepreneurial women will demonstrate their products and learn how to improve their business plans by innovating and experimenting with new ideas. They will also hold meetings with global companies and investors.
According to Gulzhan Niyazaliyeva, one of the organizers of the event, a UN Women staff member and project manager, the project is supported by the Japanese Government to respond to the urgent needs of women and girls during and after the pandemic.
"The current event is an effective platform to provide comprehensive support to women entrepreneurs from the regions of Kyrgyzstan. We are part of the virtual EXPO in Istanbul, implemented by the regional office of the UN. Our event is held under the slogan "Create and Improve". We want our women, who develop small and medium-sized businesses in the regions, to be able to find the skills, partners and additional markets through us," she concluded.
UN Women press service reported that the conference, funded by the Japanese Government, is being held in response to the devastating impact of COVID-19 in the region, where a quarter of self-employed women have lost their jobs.
According to Alia El-Yassir, UN Women's Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, COVID-19 has had a stronger impact on women entrepreneurs because their micro, small and medium-sized businesses operate more in lower-margin sectors.
"Supporting women's income security, decent work and economic autonomy are our key priorities," El-Yassir emphasized.
