Women in Kyrgyzstan proposed to be more involved in formation of Government

Bishkek, Jan.22, 2020. /Kabar/. The Ministry of Labour and Social Development of Kyrgyzstan is submitting a draft law for public debate proposing the establishment of a gender quota in the appointment of government members.

According to statistical information, the biggest imbalance is observed at the political level - the number of men exceeds the number of women by more than 7 times and special positions by 1.6 times.

An even bigger imbalance exists at political positions in the municipal service: out of 513 positions, only 20, or 3.8%, are filled by women.

Thus, the draft law proposes to prescribe a norm that a candidate for the office of Prime Minister contributes to the Jogorku Kenesh the program, structure and composition of the Government, taking into account that representation of the same gender in the Parliament doesn’t exceed 70 %.
