Bishkek, April 19, 2021. / Kabar /. Some 60 journalists from 50 countries of the world discuss the role of journalism and the prospects of post COVID-19 era and global climate issues during the World Journalists Conference 2021, organized by the Journalists Association of Korea (JAK).
The conference has started on Monday via video conference.
The first day of the event was devoted to the topic “The Prospect of Post-COVID Era and the Role of Journalism” where journalists from around the world discussed the pandemic, its influence, COVID-19 measures, challenges in the world due to the pandemic.
Speaking with the opening remark JAK President Kim Dong Hoon stressed that the World Journalists Conference is becoming one of the greatest events for journalists around the world for its bringing journalists from across the world to discuss crucial issues and the future of journalism.
“I hope that you will share the contents discussed during this year’s conference with fellow journalists and disseminate them to citizens of your country so that we may draw interest in the tasks that the global village faces and jointly respond to them,” Kim Dong Hoon said.
“We have invited journalists from all over the world for seven years until 2019 to the Korean Peninsula, the only divided nation on earth, to have them personally experience the reality of the divided nation and realize once again the importance of peace. Aside from that, we have discussed the future of journalism and expanded forum for mutual bonding,” Kim Dong Hoon said adding that as COVID-19 spread globally, the event inevitably held online for the second year.
In his congratulatory address Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Chung Sye-kyun stressed the invaluable role of journalism.
“As people’s thirst for the truth becomes more unquenchable, the value of journalism becomes even more invaluable. In this new world, I think the role of the media lies in the truth. I believe that when the media shed light on the world through truthful communication and balanced perspectives, its role as a mirror and window will truly shine,” Chung Sye-kyun said expressing the hope that the journalists from around the world who are participating in the conference play that role.
During the session, participants shared their countries’ experience and insights related to the COVID-19 such as pandemics, treatments, vaccination, and even corruption for vaccination in the era of COVID-19 and the preparation for the media role after the virus recovery.
The second day of the World Journalists Conference 2021 will focus on the “Global Climate Issues and the Role of Journalism”, where the world journalist will discuss the accelerating crisis of climate change and environmental damage.
The World Journalists Conference is being held online since last year due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
