Bishkek, Dec. 25, 2020 /Kabar/. Executive Secretary of the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for UNESCO Sabira Soltongeldieva announced at Kabar News Agency the intention to include the World Nomad Games in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
"Currently, joint work is being done with the secretariat of the games, and perhaps next year the World Nomad Games will be included in the list," Soltongeldieva said.
The games will be nominated for the Register of best practices for the preservation of cultural tangible heritage.
The World Nomad Games are the biggest international project held in the Kyrgyz Republic, a project initiated by the government in 2012 for the revival and preservation of the culture of nomadic civilization.
The First World Nomad Games were held on Sept. 9-14, 2014 in Cholpon-Ata, in Issyk-Kul Oblast of Kyrgyzstan. 583 athletes from 19 countries participated in competitions held in 10 types of sports, plus an additional 1,200 participants in the cultural program. The television broadcast of the Games reached 230 million people.
The Second World Nomad Games were held on Sept. 3-8, 2016 in Cholpon-Ata, too.
The Third World Nomad Games were organized by the Kyrgyz Government in 2018 in Issyk-Kul.
The Fourth Nomad Games were due to take place in Turkey in 2020, but were postponed because of COVID-19.
