Bishkek, Apr. 11, 2019 / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan will mark the World Parkinson's Day, the Alliance of Movement Disorders and Parkinson’s Disease in the CIS countries reported.
April 11 is the World Parkinson's Day. This day is intended to raise public awareness about the disease.
Parkinson's disease is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement. Symptoms start gradually, sometimes starting with a barely noticeable tremor in just one hand. Tremors are common, but the disorder also commonly causes stiffness or slowing of movement. The disease is typical for people of the older age group, but it can also occur in young people.
The main signs of parkinsonism are stiffness, slow movement and tremor (which is not presented in all patients). The stiffness of the movements by the patient himself can often be regarded as weakness or heaviness in the limb. Also characterized by a change in posture and gait in the form of slowness and shuffling, sometimes unstable.
Despite advances in medicine, the disease remains incurable. However, there are many treatments to control the main symptoms. They include medicines, as well as specialized devices, surgical treatment, rehabilitation, etc.
The Alliance of Movement Disorders and Parkinson's Disease, created by parkinsonologists (specialists in movement disorders) together with foreign colleagues, with the participation of patients, their relatives and carers, has started functioning in Kyrgyzstan since this year.
The purpose of the alliance is to draw public attention to the problem and the subsequent work to improve the quality of medical and social assistance provided to Kyrgyzstanis.
