Young people in Kyrgyzstan become interested in jiu-jitsu after Torokan Bagynbay uulu’s victory at Asian Games

Bishkek, Dec. 24, 2018. /Kabar/. This year, Torokan Bagynbay uulu has won the first gold medal for Kyrgyzstan at the Summer Asian Games in Indonesia. He competed in jiu-jitsu tournament. His brother and mentor Bayaman Bagynbay uulu told that this was the impetus for popularizing the sport in the southern capital of Kyrgyzstan.

The brothers became laureates of the award of the State Agency in the field of physical culture and sports in 2018 in the category “Best Sportsman and Personal Trainer (in non-Olympic sports).

At the last Games, in the semifinals, Torokan turned out to be stronger than the Thai sportsman, in the final he defeated the representative of the UAE.

Torokan began to engage in "Japanese freestyle wrestling" in 2012-2013, before that he had been training at the Republican School of Olympic Reserve in Bishkek.

After the Asian Games, interest in this sport has grown, there are more people who wish to take up this sport, the schoolchildren have expressed their desire to be like him.

Bagynbay Sr. says that they have been involved in sports since childhood. Initially, they were engaged in boxing, kickboxing, sambo, then smoothly switched to jiu-jitsu. Since 2007, they have fully paid attention to this type of competition. His coaching activity began years later.

When asked how the training had been going before the Asian Championship, Bayaman noted that the training was tough, they were preparing in Osh, then the sportsman went to training camps in Bishkek, and from there to Issyk-Kul. To test his strength and readiness, he traveled to Moscow for 1.5 months, where he fought with the strongest wrestlers.

“We mainly train in the morning and in the evening. We try to send the guys for training in other countries. As abroad, they learn to overcome fear, compete against strong rivals, share experience”, he said, sharing plans for the next year; in 2019 the World and Asian Championships will be held; beach games".

“I was proud when I learned that my younger brother became a champion, won the first gold medal for Kyrgyzstan. I cannot tell you how it makes me feel when the flag of our country rises above the others, when the national anthem is played,” he concluded.
