Bishkek, Dec.3, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz capital Bishkek hosted the “Youth for a Healthy Life” campaign, dedicated to the World AIDS Day, the press service of the State Agency for Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sports of the Kyrgyz Republic said Monday.
The event was held on Dec. 1 at one of the capital’s malls in the format of a HEALTH-CROSS quest-game for teenagers and youth.
The participants were able to get information in the form of a game, tested their knowledge of socially significant diseases, passed a free express test for HIV, learned about the opportunities in the youth center of the agency and in other projects.
By the end of the event each participant received the necessary knowledge.
World AIDS Day, designated on 1 December every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. Government and health officials, non-governmental organizations, and individuals around the world observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control.
World AIDS Day is one of the eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO), along with World Health Day, World Blood Donor Day, World Immunization Week, World Tuberculosis Day, World No Tobacco Day, World Malaria Day and World Hepatitis Day.
The total number of HIV-positive people in Kyrgyzstan decreased by 5.7% in January-October 2019, with 642 cases registered, compared to 666 cases in 2018.
According to the data of the AIDS Republican Center of the Kyrgyz Republic, 9 thousand 435 HIV-positive people are registered in the country as of Oct. 1, 2019, including 8 thousand 919 Kyrgyz citizens and 516 foreigners.
A total of 2002 people with HIV died in Kyrgyzstan, including 639 at the AIDS stage.
