Improving level of co-op between Kyrgyzstan and EBRD discussed

Bishkek, July 3, 2021 . / Kabar / . President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov held on Friday a meeting with President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renaud-Basso via videoconference.

Issues on improvement of the level of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and EBRD, as well as further prospects for expansion of areas of interaction were discussed, the press service of the Kyrgyz president said.

President Zhaparov noted the fruitful joint work and thanked the EBRD for its support.

He also talked about the plans to create a special council under the president, which would have an open dialogue with representatives of the business community to discuss and solve the problems of entrepreneurs and investors.

In this regard, thr Kyrgyz leader invited the EBRD to participate in the creation of this council and to support it.

Sadyr Zhaparov urged the EBRD to intensify and mobilize investment resources for the implementation of infrastructure projects in priority areas such as energy, mining and light industry, agriculture and tourism.

He stressed that during the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, small and medium-sized businesses in Kyrgyzstan need comprehensive support, especially in attracting high-yield financing.

The president urged the Bank to consider introducing new financial instruments for entrepreneurs, apart from traditional lending, to support the private sector in the country.

Odile Reno-Basso noted that the EBRD has always actively invested in Kyrgyzstan, especially in the banking and private sectors, as well as in tourism, adding that they have many plans in these areas.

She welcomed Kyrgyzstan's actions to bring businesses out of the shadows, stressing that the EBRD intends to work in the energy sector, to implement projects that will help create new jobs.

In addition, the Bank plans to assist in the textile and tourism sectors, as well as to support the issue of water supply.
