Bishkek, May 24, 2021. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met today in Sochi with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During the meeting the current state and promising areas of Kyrgyz-Russian bilateral cooperation, the implementation of the agreements reached following the results of the last meeting, as well as priority plans for interaction within the framework of integration associations were discussed, the press service of the Kyrgyz president reported.
Among others, issues of maintaining regional security and stability were considered. The heads of state discussed in detail the events of April 28-30 this year at the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border, as well as measures to restore the infrastructure destroyed as a result of the conflict, social facilities and residential buildings in the border villages of Batken Oblast, as well as to provide all-round assistance to the affected local population.
Vladimir Putin noted that relations between the two states are strengthening and developing.
“Russia is confidently occupying the first place in the trade turnover of Kyrgyzstan. Unfortunately, last year, due to the pandemic, trade volume decreased, but in the first quarter of this year we are already seeing an increase of 6%. This is a good trend that we need to maintain, including by using the intergovernmental commission, which is quite active in our country. We are also working together to combat the pandemic. Russia has provided and intends to continue to support Kyrgyzstan in the supply of test systems, antiviral drugs and vaccines. Our specialists are exploring the possibility of launching production at one of the sites in Kyrgyzstan of our now worldwide known prophylactic agent Sputnik V,” said the Russian president.
In addition, Putin stressed that Russia was closely and with great concern watching the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.
“We positively perceived the intention of the two sides to resolve all controversial issues of this kind during the negotiations. I am sure that this goal can be achieved in this way. Everything that depends on us, we will do to resolve acute issues between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. We need to find a long-term solution to the problems between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which would meet the interests of both sides,” Putin added.
At the same time, he noted that the sides actively cooperate within the framework of international organizations, among which cooperation within the EAEU, the CSTO and other organizations, including those of a global nature, like the UN, occupies a special place.
Sadyr Zhaparov expressed gratitude to Vladimir Putin for his attention and empathy regarding the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border and the support provided to the people of Kyrgyzstan.
Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is aimed at further development and comprehensive strengthening of the dialogue with the Russian Federation.
