Bishkek, April 3, 2021 . / Kabar / . The CASA-1000 is a large-scale regional project, which opens a new page in the field of energy development, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov said at a ceremony of laying a capsule for the construction of the first pole of high-voltage line within CASA-1000 project in Kara-Bulak village.
The ceremony took place as part of the Kyrgyz president's working visit to Batken Oblast of the republic, his press service said.
President Zhaparov noted that this project will contribute to the socio-economic recovery of Central and South Asian countries as a whole.
The head of state stressed the special importance of this project for the country, and emphasized that the main benefit for Kyrgyzstan in its implementation will be an increase in export potential and attraction of additional investments for construction of new facilities.
Zhaparov said that despite the large amount of work done, there are many tasks ahead.
"I am confident that the project will be completed on time due to our coordinated efforts, determination and perseverance. In this regard, I urge all state bodies in the country to pay attention to the importance of the project and to take effective measures to solve problems during construction in a timely manner," he said.
The president thanked the international development partners - the World Bank, the European Investment Bank and the Islamic Development Bank for providing credit resources.
Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that the issues of energy security and energy efficiency are among the most topical today.
"In addition to the launch of the CASA-1000 project, we are currently implementing projects on the launch of the second unit of Kambar-Ata-2 and the modernization of Toktogul, Uch-Korgon and At-Bashy hydroelectric power plants. Completion of these projects will make it possible to fully meet the obligations on electric power supply within the CASA-1000 project, as well as provide all citizens of Kyrgyzstan with electric power," the head of state noted.
The Kyrgyz leader laid a capsule for the construction of the first pillar of the high-voltage power transmission line within the CASA-1000 project and wished that this project would serve the development and prosperity of Kyrgyzstan for many years to come.
The Central Asia-South Asia power project, commonly known by the acronym CASA-1000, is a $1.16 billion project currently under construction that will allow for the export of surplus hydroelectricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and finally to Afghanistan.
Groundbreaking for the project took place in May 2016 by leaders of the four nations. The entire project is expected to be completed in 2023.
