Bishkek, Nov. 2, 2021 . / Kabar / . In accordance with the spirit of the Paris Agreement, I invite investors from developed economies to mutually beneficial investment cooperation in the hydropower complex, including on the principles of public-private partnership, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov said in his speech at the World Leaders Summit of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change on Nov. 2.

He noted that without the availability of advanced technologies, innovations and know-how, it will be difficult for Kyrgyzstan to simultaneously achieve green economic growth and carbon neutrality within the planned timeframe, his press service said.

“In this regard, I urge all interested parties, especially international multilateral banks, climate funds and corporations, to engage in substantive dialogue with us.

It is critical for Kyrgyzstan to preserve its centuries-old glaciers, water resources and majestic mountains not only from climate change, but also from unscrupulous economic activity,” Zhaparov added.

The Kyrgyz leader said that adaptation programs and projects will be implemented in vulnerable sectors such as agriculture, water resources, energy, industry, emergencies, public health, forests and biodiversity.

“The magnitude of the work to be done is enormous, given that ninety-four percent of our country is mountainous. Their implementation is estimated at almost USD 3 billion,” the president concluded.
