Zhaparov: Kyrgyzstan actively participates in development of ‘East-West’ and ‘North-South’ transport corridors

Bishkek, Nov. 28, 2021 . / Kabar / . “Kyrgyzstan, together with other ECO countries, actively participates in the development of "East-West" and "North-South" transport corridors,” President Sadyr Zhaparov said during the 15th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

"This will allow Central Asian countries to access the Persian Gulf through Turkmenistan and Iran. In addition, Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to the promotion of the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China railroad project, which is included in the ECO Action Plan for the development of transport and communications in the ECO region. The Kyrgyz Republic is actively working to increase the transit potential of the transport corridor along the Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan – Iran road through the port of Shahid Rajai," Zhaparov stressed.

Touching upon the topic of tourism, the president of Kyrgyzstan emphasized that cooperation in this area between ECO member states is becoming more active.

“Countries of the region have great tourism potential and many opportunities for the development of international tourism. In this regard, it is necessary to consider the issue of cooperation in this sector as well,” Zhaparov concluded.
