Bishkek, March 17, 2021. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov addressed the people of the country in connection with Aksy events of 2002.
In his address, the Kyrgyz leader noted that the Aksy events went down in history as a turning point in the democratic development of Kyrgyzstan.
“We will not be mistaken to call them a historical episode that marked the beginning of the nationwide struggle against the injustice that subsequently led to the March and April revolutions, as well as the popular uprisings of last October.
On this day we honor the heroism of our compatriots who died and were wounded in the Aksy tragedy,” Zhaparov said.
He added that in the history of independent Kyrgyzstan, the Aksy events have become a symbol of defending democracy and strengthening statehood.
“I am well aware that fighting for the truth is extremely important but difficult.
Your courage and unwavering will never be forgotten!,” the president’s address said.
The head of state stressed all people of Kyrgyzstan pay tribute to the Aksy heroes who gave their lives for justice and freedom, adding that the lessons of the Aksy events encourage to build a new society with high national values, to pursue just and impartial policies, and to strengthen democratic governance that will serve the people.
2020 Aksy events is shooting of a demonstration by local people in the village of Bospiek, Aksy region of Jalal-Abad Oblast on March 17, 2002, protesting against the transfer of part of the Kyrgyz territory (90 thousand ha) to China.
The immediate cause of the unrest was the arrest of a compatriot of Aksy residents oppositionist Azimbek Beknazarov by the authorities.
The victims of the use of firearms were six people.
