Bishkek, Sept. 21, 2022 . / Kabar / . President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met with Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Audrey Azoulay on the margins of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
The sides exchanged views on cooperation in preventing the effects of climate change, and the preservation and development of cultural and historical heritage.
The Kyrgyz leader drew attention to the expansion of cooperation on climate change in mountainous countries, strengthening research activities and the creation of new institutions and directions to increase knowledge about the state of glaciers in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Sadyr Zhaparov expressed the interest of the Kyrgyz side to continue cooperation with UNESCO on the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage at the national and international level.
The president of Kyrgyzstan, expressing satisfaction that the UNESCO Memory of the World program has been renewed, in the framework of which Kyrgyzstan submitted a nomination for inclusion of the Manas epic manuscript in the version of Manas narrator Sagymbai Orozbakov on Nov. 30, 2021, added that the republic seeks to make its contribution to the development of intercultural cooperation.
UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay expressed the organization's interest in deepening cooperation with Kyrgyzstan.
She invited President Zhaparov to visit UNESCO headquarters next year for the next session of the organization's Executive Board, where Kyrgyzstan is an active member.
