Bishkek, Nov. 5, 2021 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov received today Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Linhart, who arrived to participate in First Central Asia - European Union Economic Forum, the press service of the head of state reported.
Sadyr Zhaparov expressed gratitude to the Austrian side for support and participation in the Economic Forum. “We want this platform to become in the future a stable mechanism of economic cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and the European Union,” he said.
The head of state stressed that Austria is an important partner of Kyrgyzstan among the member states of the European Union.
He recalled that next year it is planned to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Austria. “During this time we have come a long way of cooperation. Considering the important date of our bilateral cooperation next year, we offer the Austrian side to hold a number of joint activities and develop a joint Roadmap in all areas of our cooperation," Sadyr Zhaparov suggested.
The president expressed his readiness to further expand and strengthen bilateral cooperation, including trade and economic cooperation with Austria. “We believe that we have a significant untapped potential for trade and economic cooperation,” he said and added that Kyrgyzstan is interested in expanding the list of mutual goods to increase the volume of mutual trade between the two countries.
The head of state drew special attention to the large hydropower potential of Kyrgyzstan and expressed interest in cooperation with Austria on the construction of large and small hydropower plants.
In turn, Michael Linhart expressed gratitude for the hospitality of the Kyrgyz side and the organization of the event at a high level, despite the situation with the pandemic in the world.
He noted that Austria is interested in expanding cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, including on regional issues, taking into account the situation in Afghanistan.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed issues of expanding bilateral cooperation in the trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian sectors, as well as in the field of tourism.
