"According to expert forecasts, the global economic "center of gravity" is gradually shifting towards Asia, which opens up new opportunities for our region, including the development of green, digital and creative industries," Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov said speaking at the Fourth Consultative Meeting of Heads of State of Central Asia in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul Oblast.
The head of state noted that over the past ten years, Central Asia has seen dynamic economic growth and growth in gross domestic product. Thus, in 2021 the total share of GDP exceeded USD 300 billion.
"I believe that the driver of growth in Central Asia is free trade and investment, the development of transport and transit infrastructure and digitalization. Today there are already positive examples of mutually beneficial cooperation in these sectors.
The established border trade centers at the border of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as well as the industrial trade and logistics center near the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border will contribute to the intensification of trade.
It is crucial to completely remove tariff and non-tariff barriers to free trade, including unreasonable border delays. I hope that the tools of digitalization will help to resolve the issues that have accumulated,” Zhaparov stressed.
The Kyrgyz leader noted that given that Central Asian countries are landlocked, efforts should be made to improve the transport, transit and logistics infrastructure of the countries, primarily in terms of increasing the level of integration within the region, as well as connecting them to global transport hubs and corridors.
He also said that an important project is the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad, the successful implementation of which will significantly increase the international trade, investment, and transit potential of Central Asia.
