Inflow of foreign direct investments in Kyrgyzstan in 2019 amounted to $ 876.2 mln

Bishkek, March 11, 2020 / Kabar /. According to preliminary data, the inflow of foreign direct investments in 2019 compared with 2018 increased by 2.9% and amounted to USD 876.2 million, Victoria Biryukova, head of the department of investment statistics of the National Statistics Committee told.

According to her data, the inflow of investments last year exceeded the level of outflow by USD 210.8 million (in 2018 - by USD 144.2 million).

“In the structure of foreign direct investments compared with the previous year, there was an increase in reinvested earnings. The main volume of foreign direct investment - this is more than 87% directed to geological exploration, enterprises of manufacturing, mining, information and communications, as well as financial intermediation and insurance. At the same time, the volume of investments in information and communications increased by 2.7 times, exploration - 1.8 times, financial intermediation and insurance - 14.6%, while investments in manufacturing enterprises decreased by 1.7 times, mining enterprises - by 16.5%,” Biryukova said.

She also noted that the volume of direct foreign investment from non-CIS countries increased by 15.5% compared to 2018, mainly due to their growth from Switzerland by 5.3 times, Cyprus - by 5.0 times, Great Britain - 2.6 times, Canada - 17.2% and the Netherlands - 9.3%.

“In the total volume of direct foreign investment received, the largest share falls on China - 34.3 percent of the total volume of received investments, Canada - 13.2 percent, Switzerland - 11.8 percent, Turkey - 8.6 percent, Great Britain - 8, 3 percent and the Netherlands - 7.2 percent,” the expert said.

According to her, the volume of direct foreign investment from the CIS countries in comparison with 2018, on the contrary, decreased by 2.1 times due to their decrease from Russia by 3.7 times and Uzbekistan - by 13.1 times. Along with this, investments from Kazakhstan increased by 1.3 times.

The outflow of foreign direct investment in 2019 compared to 2018 decreased by 5.9 percent and amounted to USD 665.4 million,” said Biryukova.
